Acer says Iconia Tab A100 due September, Android

Acer Germany puts Iconia Tab A100 in September

Acer Germany told an inquisitive Facebook fan this week that the Iconia Tab A100 was shipping in September. The seven-inch Android 3 tablet was to have been available as soon as the spring but now won't be available for a few months more. The company didn't explain the delay.
Earlier tips have hinted that Acer was waiting on Android 3.2. The company had supposedly tried to shoehorn 3.0 on to the mini tablet but had found that, like Google had warned, the interface wasn't meant for screens that small. Android 3.2 is still built only for tablets but can accommodate smaller designs like the A100 while properly scaling its interface and apps.

The innards should be very close to the larger A500 with the same Tegra 2 processor and dual cameras. It will mostly keep costs small to match the size by using 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage on the base model, with 16GB an option.

A US release is believed in the cards and could have it inWalmart for $349, although the pricing may have come too early to hold up. [via Tablet Community]
